January 25th 2012 Presentation
This is the second year of the American Civil
War's sesquicentennial. CRHS is starting its first presentation of the
new year with a multimedia presentation on the local areas involvement
with the Civil War. The presenters provide the fascinating back story
about the part California and the gold country played in the Civil War.
The presentation will be by Richard Hurley and J. T. Meekins and
is based on research they used for their new book "Queen of the Northern
Mines". The authors will be at the library at 4:30 PM for a book
signing, the presentation starts at 6:30. Both events are free and

Novermer 15th
To mark the 100th anniversary
of women’s suffrage in California the Society has invited Debbie
Hollingsworth for the California State Capital Museum to tell us about
the wonderful exhibit she has developed for the Museum and the struggle
to get women the right to vote in California.
October 26th
Our speaker for the October meeting will be Rich
Dvoracek from Strike It Rich Adventuress’ he is a Geologist, Mining
Historian and Paleontologist who received his education from UC Davis.
For the past 9 years Rich, a.k.a. “Miner Rich” has taught 1850’s
gold rush living history to thousands of school children. Rich has also
taught adult geology classes, and has been a guest speaker for various
organizations and colleges. Rich has competed in several state, national
and international gold panning championships, bringing home the gold in
the 1990’s in the national gold panning championships. He will
talk about the geology of the area and how gold came to be deposited
here. I have heard “Miner Rich” at the Gold Bug Mine and he really
makes the subject come alive.

Group. You saw them at
Clarksville Day 2011 they were a big hit so we
decided to have them back to one of our meetings to tell us about their
club and how they build their trains.
July No general meeting. Our regular schedule will resume in August

we will have a movie Narrow Gauge Logging Railroads
of El Dorado County which has footage from 1935 to 1950 of the Diamond
&Caldor and Michigan-California with its sensational 1200 foot ½ mile cableway
spanning the American River gorge. After the movie our president Hal
Erpenbeck will take a few minutes to tell us about Shay locomotives.

Dennis Armaral and his wife Antonia will be talking about the
Concord and Mud Wagon stage coaches.
The Armaral’s will be giving rides on the
Concord at Clarksville Day. Antonia will talk about Jenny Wimmer who was a resident of
Coloma when gold was discovered.
It is from Jenny's Diary that we know the exact
date of the gold discovery.
March 23rd, 2011 6:30 PM at the EDH library: Frontier Sewing and Garments of the Gold Rush by Marge Earhart
The March speaker for the Clarksville Region Historical Society will be Marge Earhart, her topic will be “Frontier Sewing and Garments of the Gold Rush” she will bring several garments from the period along with other interesting artifacts of the time. Even the guys are going to like this presentation. Marge is a long time member of the Gold Discovery Park Association and collector of antique sewing material, chatelaines and sewing machines. Marge is a wealth of information on this subject so you're not going to not want to miss her presentation.

at the EDH library: Wild Flowers of the Western Slope By Joanne Geggatt
Joanne grow up in Santa Cruz and always had an interest in wild flowers.
She followed up her interest by getting degrees in botany and etymology Joanne
is a long time member of the California Native Plant Society and the Santa Clara
Valley Native Plant Society. When she moved to El Dorado Hills she joined
the El Dorado County Native Plant Society and the American River Conservancy in
Coloma where she a docent.
Her topic will be the native plants of
the western slope and the history of how they got their name. She
accompanies her talk with a beautiful set of slides. One of the things
that make this presentation special is that it comes just about the wild flowers
will be putting on their show.
